For example, Greenbone OS 21.04 was released in April 2021 and Greenbone OS 22.10 will be released in October 2022. The versioning scheme is date-based (also called Calendar Versioning). Release: The first two numbers of a Greenbone OS version indicate the release version, for example the “21.04” in “21.04.3”.All support and other services are discontinued. Obsolete: The release is not useable anymore.Support is limited to assistance in upgrading to the next release. The functionality of a retired release may be limited and no more patches are provided. Retired: The release is removed from the list of current releases and archived.Users are advised to upgrade to the next major release. It is still functional and supported, but will receive only a reduced number of patches, limited to critical fixes of core functionality and security issues. End-of-Life: The release is approaching the end of its lifecycle.All users are encouraged to upgrade to the new release. Patches are now provided at a regular 4-week interval. Mature: Most issues of the new release have been addressed.Patches may be provided frequently to address any issues. Documentation and support for the new release are provided. New: The new release is available to the public for all supported appliance models.The new release may be made available to a select group of external testers, including partners and customers. Development is focused on bug fixes and improvements. All new features are implemented and tested. Release-specific documentation and QA starts. Development of other features may continue. Alpha: The new release is available internally, including some new features.QA and other support systems for the release are being prepared. The new features are being designed and implemented by our developers. Changes to the feature set are only made if absolutely necessary. Development: The expected feature set is now defined.As soon as an upcoming release enters this phase, it appears on our roadmap. During the planning phase, we also take into account our customers’ requests and suggestions for new or enhanced features. Planning: The feature set for the release is being defined. ![]()
